How Long Can I Have the Skip Bin for?

Skip bin hire periods are normally anywhere from half a day up to 5 days.

Some customers need an extension of an extra 1 or 2 days, which is granted free of charge.

During peak periods the free extensions maybe limited due to the increase in our workload.

Why do you have weight limits with your skip bin hire service?

Having weight limits for the skip bin hire industry is often thought of in a negative way by some customers

when the truth behind the matter is that it provides for the ability to provide a far cheaper skip bin hire service, saving customers money in the long run!

90% of our customers do not exceed their skip bins weight limit, people exceeding their weight limit, is always due to loading bricks, dirt, concrete etc, into their Light General Waste skip bin service!

Why do you have skip bin waste categories

Skip Bin and Mini Skips waste categories enable us to dispose of the entire load of general waste and junk at the one the one tipping facility.

While dirt, concrete, bricks etc are all dispose of at the appropriate landfill or recycling plants, which are

totally different from the transfer stations where all of the general waste is disposed off.

By having Waste Categories, it also help customers to save money, by having dedicated loads.

How am I suppose to know how much the skip bin will weigh?

Until the truck goes over the weighbridge at the tip, we don't know either, we have to set a weight limit in order for us to be able to charge for our services and to not lose money!

If customers stick to their skip bins waste category properly, they will not exceed their weight limit!

What can't I put in the skip bin or mini skips?

All customers are given a card when the skip bins are delivered, stating the waste category, the pickup date, the card also explains in detail all of the prohibited waste, their are also red stickers on the side of all the skip bins and mini skips. All Hazardous waste, Medical Waste, Food, Paint, Oils etc are banned.

How big is one cubic metre?

1m wide x 1m deep x 1m high

What does m3 mean?

m3 = cubic metre, all commercial waste is measured either by the cubic metre, or in weight by the tonne.

What size skip bin will I need to hire?

If you have a pile of general waste and junk it's not hard to work out, it's just a little bit of maths, measure the length of the pile, by the width, by the height, multiply them all together, put the decimal point in the correct spot, and their you have the skip bin size you need to hire.

If your junk is spread out, it's a bit of a guessing game 2m3 = small jobs, 3m3 = small to medium jobs, 4m3 = medium jobs and 6m3 = larger jobs.

How high can I go above the top edge of the skip bin or mini skips?

The top edge of the skip bin or mini skip is the legal carrying capacity of the skip bins load. Therefore, if people load the skip bins higher than the top edge, the driver is breaking the road laws and could face a fine if picked up by Vic Roads!

Overloaded skip bins will have the overloaded materials and junk removed from the skip bin or mini skip.

If it rains, will the skip fill up with water?

No, our skip bins and mini skips all have drain holes, one in each corner of the skips and bins, for water to be able to drain out. However, make sure you do not block the drain holes, as this will prevent water drainage from the skips!

What does asbestos look like?

Most asbestos we come across is in the form of A/C sheeting.

Modern cement sheeting has approx. 6 clearly visible layers of paper between the cement, if these layers are not visible, then we class the material as asbestos!

The only true way we to clarify if layers are not visible is to have the material in question tested?

To find out more about asbestos, have a look on the internet at:

Asbestos Council of Victoria (website address below) - find out where it could be located in your house

Can I put old weed killer, poisons, fly spray etc in the skip bin?

No, all poisons and any liquids are not allowed to be loaded into the skip bins.

Can I put a lawn mower, whippersnipper etc in the skips?

Yes, however, all petrol must be emptied out of the fuel tank and leave the fuel cap off the petrol tank so the fumes can evaporate any remaining fuel left in the engine or fuel lines.
